An Aviation Accident is defined by the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board as: An occurrence associated with the operation of an aircraft which takes place between the time any person boards the aircraft with the intention of flight and all such persons have disembarked.

An Aviation Accident is an occurrence on board an aircraft resulting in injury or death to one or more persons. On the other hand, an aviation incident is an occurrence other than an Aviation Accident ; associated with the operation of an aircraft, which affects or could affect the safety of operations. If the damage to a plane is such that it must be written off or that it is totally destroyed, it is called a "hull-loss accident". Aviation Accident attorneys deal with these sorts of occurences.
