: Chippewa County Boating Accident Injuries

The driver of a speedboat faces at least two charges after he collided with a pontoon boat in Chippewa County.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said virtually all of the 11 people on the pontoon boat were injured, but none of the eight persons on the speedboat were hurt.

Several victims had broken bones and head injuries. And at least one person was pinned under the speedboat for a short time.

A 22-year-old man from New Brighton, Minn., who used to live near Ladysmith, was taken to jail for drunken and reckless boating.

Scott Bowe of the DNR said the boats got tangled up so much that a wrecker had to be called to get the speedboat off the pontoon craft.

The crash remains under investigation. It happened Sunday night on Lake Holcombe and it was the second straight Memorial Day weekend that such an incident took place.
