Town of Constantia (WSYR-TV) - People living in the Town of Constantia are in shock this evening over the death of David Webb.
He died Tuesday in a freak accident, when a tree stump fell on top of him.
As the town's Highway Superintendent, he's described as someone who was very safety conscious.
David Webb is described as someone who did it all.
Town Supervisor Ron Sakonyi says, "He was very dedicated; dedicated to the job. He was tireless. He went above and beyond what would normally be expected of anyone in his position."
He had been working for the highway department since 1975 and has been highway supervisor for the last 19 years.
David was working, helping unload tree stumps from this truck when something terrible happened.
Sankonyi says, "David stood off to the side of the truck, probably far enough away he thought he was safe. Apparently a freak thing happened where one of the stumps come off the truck and landed on him.
"If he was standing closer to the truck, it would have gone over his head. Would have missed him completely.”
Not only was David involved in the town, he was also active at the Constantia Volunteer Fire Department. Just recently, he was recognized for his 15 years of service.
Tuesday night, the fire department lowered their flags to half staff and put up black bunting to honor David. T
he people who knew him best say they're trying to remember David for the man he was, not how he died.
State Police along with OSHA are investigating the accident.
David Webb was 49-years-old, and leaves behind a wife and two children.
