Two Miami Valley residents were killed in separate accidents Wednesday and Monday involving their motorcycles.
On Wednesday, 50-year-old Paul Lucarello Jr. of Middletown died on Interstate 75 north when his bike struck the rear of a sports utility vehicle that had slowed in heavy traffic near the Dryden Road exit, according to Moraine Police Detective Paul Guess.
"He just couldn't stop in time," Guess said.
Lucarello, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene of the 7:52 a.m. accident. No charges will be filed, police said.
The accident forced police and rescue crews to close the interstate for three hours, backing up traffic to the Dayton Mall area.
Wednesday night, Lucille Lucarello, the mother of Paul Jr., said her son, who celebrated his 50th birthday Sunday at a family cookout, was headed to work at the Area Agency on Aging in Dayton.
The Franklin High School and Miami University grad has long owned and ridden motorcycles, she said.
"He just bought that one and was riding it to work because gas prices were so high," she said Wednesday night.
She said her son also is survived by his wife, Linda, two adult children and four grandchildren.
On Monday, 60-year-old Don Carl Marshall of Tipp City was killed on Interstate 270 in Rockville, Md., after he lost control of his 1994 Harley Davidson while trying to change lanes about 5:11 p.m., according to the Maryland State Police.
Marshall was pronounced dead at Shady Grove Hospital in Rockville.
Frances Marshall said her husband was on his way home after participating in the annual Rolling Thunder Ride for Freedom.
