: Slab Falls, Kills Worker

An employee of All Granite and Marble Corp. in Stroudsburg was killed Wednesday afternoon when a large granite slab he was helping lift fell and crushed him, according to reports from Stroud Area Regional Police. The incident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. in the company's yard at the end of Storm Street. Workers were trying to get the slab into an upright position when it tipped over and fell on an unidentified 45-year-old man, police said. The Monroe County Coroner's Office pronounced the man dead at the scene and will conduct an autopsy. The victim's identity will be released when his next of kin have been notified. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, which conducts its own investigations of job-related fatalities, has been contacted, police said.
